One of the largest healthcare providers in the United States had large datasets in oncology that relied heavily on human experts to curate and refine key clinical variables, such as treatment response and long-term outcomes. Relying on human curation of key clinical outcomes is both resource- and time-intensive.

To mitigate the need for human curation and expedite the identification of key outcomes among real-world clinical datasets, we demonstrate the application of machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP) algorithms using NVIDIA GPUs to a very large integrated dataset of EMR and cancer registry data. This work focused on machine-driven tagging of cancer recurrence events. We'll share our process for data engineering and fusion, and ML and NLP-based modeling of data from over 56,000 cancer patients and an associated 32 million clinical encounters.
